Although I’m not a big fan of winter, I do enjoy the beauty of freshly fallen snow, especially when I wake up in the morning to find a thick blanket of white covering the landscape surrounding our home. It’s important to enjoy the beauty of freshly fallen snow when it first falls, because it doesn’t take long for the glistening white to turn a polluted grey. Cars and snow removal trucks definitely leave their mark.

“I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.” (1 John 2:12)

When we first accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and receive His gift of forgiveness, we feel as pure and unstained as freshly fallen snow. But as time goes by, new sin creeps into our lives and stains our souls once again. Christians should sinning less, but we will never be sinless, at least not in these mortal bodies. I’m grateful to know that Jesus didn’t just die for past sins. His mercy and forgiveness covers all of our sins—past, present, and future. God knows our need for His constant forgiveness—that’s why He sent His Son Jesus to die for us.

“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

“Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” (Psalm 32:1)

Don’t let Satan deceive you into thinking that some of your sins are not covered by grace. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior and have accepted His free gift of forgiveness, your sins are forgiven. Washed by the blood of Jesus—you are whiter than snow.

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.” (Ephesians 1:7-8)

What should be our response to His merciful gift of forgiveness?

Acknowledge our sin and repent as soon as we realize our iniquity.

Progress—not perfection.
