I had spent the entire day at the hospital with my dad who was having surgery on his back.  One thing is for sure… a day at the hospital puts things into the proper perspective. There is so much pain and suffering going on in the world; our problems can seem pretty insignificant in comparison.

My dad had been suffering with back pain for quite a while and was growing restless and needed to find a more permanent solution to his pain. He tried all the recommended medical procedures, hoping for some relief, but they were only temporary fixes and the pain always returned.  Desperate for some relief, surgery became his only viable option.

It can be a helpless feeling to place your loved one into the hands of someone who literally holds their life in the balance.  But it makes a world of difference when you know that you can trust the one holding the scalpel.

“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)

Although I had confidence in the doctors and nurses caring for my dad that day, I had even more confidence knowing my dad was in the hands of the Great Physician, Jesus Christ.

If you have loved ones under the care of medical staff, remember that God’s all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present care is just a surrendered prayer away.
