As I wrestle with self-doubt, as I let this world we live in define who I am, I somehow forget who is holding me. The Lord of this universe has me in His arms.

As I step out in faith, I have no doubt that Satan is on the prowl, that he desires nothing short of my complete and total defeat. But, as I pray and study the Word of God today, God reveals something so powerful to me, and it brings complete peace.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Satan, no doubt, is after my defeat. However, my Lord and Savior is fighting my battle and it has already been won.  Satan cannot attack me without permission from God Himself. So these attacks of self-doubt that I am experiencing are for a greater purpose. God wants to accomplish something through this fire that He has allowed. Just as in Exodus 3:3, when Moses watched the bush burning yet the bush was not being consumed, the fire God is allowing to burn in me will not consume me. God will use this fire of self-doubt as a refining tool.

“This third I will bring into the fire: I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them.  I will say, They are my people,” and they will say, “The Lord is our God.” (Zechariah 13:9).

As we go through feelings of self-doubt in our lives, we must always remember that God desires what is best for us. He holds us in His arms. He desires to refine us through the fires He allows in our lives, even the fire of self-doubt.
