We live in a culture that is obsessed with more.  The desire for more food, more houses, more cars, more money, more free time, more education, more technology, and more material possessions has become a top priority for many. And what has all of this gotten us?

Well let’s see… we have more disease, more debt, more stress, more headaches, more suicides, more substance abuse, more depression, more crime, more unemployment, and more unhappy people than ever before.

Perhaps more isn’t all it’s cracked up to be?

In God’s economy, sometimes less is more. The secret to true happiness comes from this simple yet profound statement recorded in the book of John, “He must become greater; I must become less.” (John 3:30)

Could it really be that simple?

I can only speak from personal experience, but I have to say yes!  I have a standing prayer to God that goes something like this:

Lord, may it be all of you and none of me.

Where there is less of me, there is more room for God to work in my life. This, in-turn, makes me more fulfilled.

“I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.” (Ephesians 3:7-9)

It sounds like crazy math but less really is more when you are looking at life through the loving lens of God.
