Today”s Post By: Rae Lynn DeAngelis

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)

In my last post, I mentioned my early morning stroll along the beach during our family vacation.  After my walk, I went up to the hotel pool area and sat for a spell in one of the lounge chairs.

Not many guests were up and about that early in the morning; however, there were several employees buzzing around the grounds, working to get things ready for the guests who would be emerging from their rooms before long. Hotels require lots of behind the scenes workers to keep things running smoothly.

Ironically, I rarely noticed the workers during the daytime hours, but here they were hustling and bustling in the wee hours of the morning. These workers cleaned and maintained the pool, straightened the chairs, folded the towels, prepared the food, and cleaned the grounds to make everything beautiful. The exertion they poured into each day made our vacation extra special.  Their contribution was enormous, yet they received little recognition for their efforts. If I hadn’t gotten up extra early that day, I probably wouldn’t have even acknowledged their existence. Whispering a prayer for these diligent workers, I thanked God for their humble service and invaluable contribution towards making our vacation extra special.

God reminded me of how all areas of service are important to Him. While some people serve up front and receive much attention, an even greater number of people serve behind the scenes, and their contribution is important to the kingdom of God.

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-8)

No matter where God calls us to serve: in our homes, at the office, in a large church, or as the grounds keeper for a large hotel, we should serve humbly with all our heart, giving the Lord and others our very best.
