Have you ever been desperate to reach someone on the phone, but it seems like every time you call, you either get a busy signal or voicemail? Sometimes the person’s voice mailbox is so full that you can’t even leave a message. Ugh!  It’s easy to grow frustrated when we can’t get a connection.

Sometimes I feel as though my spiritual connection to God meets similar resistance. I keep praying, but no answer comes.  When I leave message after message but receive no call backs, I begin to question… did God even hear my prayer?

“He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.” (Psalm 102:17)

When we feel that our prayers are not being answered, it’s easy to grow frustrated or even discouraged, wondering if God actually heard our plea.  Anytime we begin to doubt, we need to focus on truth.

“I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.” (Psalm 17:6)

God hears all of our prayers, but He answers them in His timing and with His ultimate purpose in mind.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.” (2 Peter 3:9a)

“But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” (Psalm 33:11)

God sees the big picture.  When we don’t see things happen as quickly as we like, we need to trust God’s higher ways. Oftentimes God is working behind the scenes where our eyes cannot see, making needed preparations so He can answer our prayers in the best way possible.  We need to remember that God isn’t just working for our good; He is working for the good of all those who love Him.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

When we don’t see immediate results from our prayers, we shouldn’t assume our connection to God is broken.  We just need to be a little more patient while we wait.  That’s good advice for our relationship with God as well as our unanswered telephone calls.
