Today’s Post By: Rae Lynn DeAngelis

Unlike kids today, my friends and I rarely played indoors. As long as it was daylight, we were outside. While out exploring in the woods, we sometimes had to cross over a creek.  Protruding rocks became a pathway to advance safely to the other side.

The journey through life can feel as though we are advancing one stepping stone at a time.  Some routes lead us towards a dead end, while others bring about great progress.  In life, even when our path leads to a dead end, God never wastes the journey.  Instead, He uses the opportunity to teach us valuable lessons along the way.

“His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step.” (Job 34:21)

Ironically, some of the stepping stones in my personal life may have seemed like a dead end at first, but I later came to realize they were necessary detours, leading me towards God’s ultimate plan.

For instance, after God set me free from bulimia, I felt him calling me to write about my journey of faith with Him. Those writings eventually became a published book called, Nothing But Your Truth Will Help Me, God!   This book never became a huge success by the world’s standards, but God has used it as a stepping stone to bring about many other opportunities, including Living in Truth Ministries.  I could have easily grown discouraged by the lack of book sales and decided it was a waste of my time, but I instead chose to see it as a means to bring about God’s bigger plan.

“The LORD will indeed give what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.
Righteousness goes before him
and prepares the way for his steps.” (Psalm 85:12-13)

I bet if you were to look back over your own life, you too would recognize a few stepping stones, which, at the time, seemed like a dead end, but you now see as an important stride that helped you reach your current destination.

Stepping stones in life help Christians reach our ultimate destination—heaven.  As long as we keep our focus on Jesus, no matter which path we take, God will draw us closer to Him.

“…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 1b-2a)

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”  (Isaiah 30:21)

We just need to keep taking one step at a time.
