Keep Pressing On

Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to move forward while looking backward?   The other day I was walking out into my garage to get something when my husband asked me a question.  I looked back and answer him but kept walking forward. The next thing I knew I was laying flat on the garage floor.

Moving forward while looking backward can not only hinder our progress, but it can even cause us to stumble and fall.

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14)

I am reminded through this Scripture that moving forward isn’t necessarily an easy thing to do.  The very words the apostle Paul uses, describing the method of moving forward, implies that it takes work – a deliberate action. He uses words like press on, straining and take hold.

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Philippians 3:12)

Is the road to progress getting a little difficult to travel? Are you at a place in your Christian walk where you could use a pep talk?  Take Paul’s advice

Forget the past, press forward, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. He will guide our steps, keep us on the right path, and clear the trail up ahead.

Keep pressing on!
